The medical jutsu glow is the wrong shade of green. That's what I kept thinking during the opening scene where Tsunade's hands are hovering over your unconscious body. Wrong shade entirely. But then Shizune leans in to adjust something and her uniform does this thing where the fabric pulls and suddenly I don't care about color accuracy anymore.
This game has no business working as well as it does. The dialogue reads like someone translated it through three different languages and then back, but somehow that makes the dirty parts hit harder. There's a moment with Ino where she's explaining something about your memory loss and her mouth keeps moving but the text is describing how her mesh armor shifts when she breathes and I realized I'd clicked through three dialogue boxes without reading a single word. The quest system is barely functional. You click on locations, things happen, sometimes you get a scene. The village map has icons that don't always match what you're clicking on. I spent ten minutes trying to find Tenten because her marker was hidden behind the training ground label.
The Tsunade scenes though. Listen. There's this one where she's examining you after you wake up and the writing suddenly gets weirdly specific about her hands and the pressure of her fingers and the way her chest moves when she leans forward. It's clumsy and repetitive in places but also somehow exactly what I wanted. The game knows what you're here for and stops pretending around the third quest. Sakura shows up later with this expression that's supposed to be concerned but just looks hungry and the whole thing derails into something that made me forget about the broken map entirely.
The sound design is just... sometimes there's music, sometimes there isn't. The voice acting is absent except for these little gasps that play during certain scenes and they're so compressed they sound like someone breathing through a pillow. I don't know why that works but it does. The whole thing feels like finding a dirty magazine in the woods, pages stuck together, half the pictures torn out, and somehow that makes it better than something polished.
