Ryara’s innocence is the kind that makes you wince before the first tentacle even shows up. She arrives in Krownhaven with her little spellbook and that wide eyed Slavic village naivety, and the city just chews her up. Not in a slow corruption way either. More like the game drops you into a sandbox where the quest log is basically a list of bad decisions waiting to happen. I spent maybe twenty minutes trying to be a proper adventurer, taking notes on monster weaknesses, and then I walked into the wrong alley and a slime girl had her way with Ryara before I could even find the menu to equip a ward. The combat system is barely there, it’s more of a suggestion. You poke at options and the scene just unfolds.
The leveling is what got me thinking though. It’s not about stats. Your real progression is how many monstrous lesbian encounters you’ve unlocked in the gallery, which is a brutal little gamification loop. Every failed quest, every wrong turn, adds another scene to the collection. It’s like the game is rewarding you for being terrible at protecting her. The yuri content is front and center, no male gaze softening it, just creature girls and corrupted mages doing what they want. I wish the alchemy system actually mattered, you collect herbs but they just sit there, useless. A potion to resist a succubus’s charm would change the whole dynamic but no, it’s just window dressing.
The visual novel bits are oddly well written for something that looks like it was drawn in a tavern on a napkin. The medieval setting is grimy, not noblebright. Krownhaven stinks through the screen. There’s a scene with a werewolf in the sewers that’s going to live in my head rent free, the way the text describes her fur matted with... actually forget it. The sandbox means you can stumble into end game areas by accident and get absolutely destroyed by a demoness who’s way above your pay grade. That happened. I wasn’t mad. The game never pretends to be fair. It just wants to see how many times Ryara can say “oh goodness” before she stops meaning it.
