You know that feeling when you’re at a party and someone spikes the punch but instead of getting dizzy you just get teleported to a nightmare dimension? Luminary Protocol has that energy. It starts like every other isekai you’ve skimmed on your phone at 1 AM, some guy, some glowing portal, the usual. Then the world of Lumis starts doing its thing. Convergences, they call them. Chunks of other realities just slam into the landscape like a drunk driver. One minute you’re in a generic fantasy tavern, the next there’s a sci-fi wreckage bleeding neon into the cobblestones. The whole place feels unstable, like it’s held together with spite and bad decisions.
The adult stuff is woven right into that chaos. I appreciate a game that doesn’t pretend the horny and the horrific are separate departments. There’s a milf mage who offers a handjob that feels less like a reward and more like a trauma response, which is honestly refreshing. The AI CG art has that uncanny smoothness, sometimes a tit looks like it’s trying to escape the frame, but during a particularly intense titfuck scene with a monster girl, the weirdness actually adds to the whole “wrong dimension” vibe. The alignment system pushes you toward Order, Chaos, or Balance, and the dev says Balance is canon, which feels like a cop-out but whatever. I kept picking Chaos options just to see how unhinged the dialogue would get, and it did not disappoint. There’s a school setting segment that appears out of nowhere, a convergence thing, and the groping mechanics there are so blunt they loop back around to being funny.
The pacing is like a thunderstorm that forgot to bring rain. Lots of buildup, some flashes of genuine brilliance, like a pregnancy reveal that genuinely shocked me because of how it tied into the world’s unstable magic, and then long stretches where you’re just clicking through dialogue about gods and demons. The virgin protagonist trope is played painfully straight, which clashes with the otherwise dark tone. It’s like the game forgets it’s supposed to be a desperate life or death struggle and remembers it’s a dating sim with multiple endings. The incest route is there if you squint, but it’s handled with the subtlety of a brick through a window. I kept getting distracted by the oral sex scenes because the anatomy would shift slightly between frames, a nipple here, gone there, like Lumis itself couldn’t decide on the physics. Still, that one vaginal sex scene after the pivotal choice in the demon court? The one where the violence and the eroticism finally stop fighting for the wheel? That’s the good stuff. It almost makes you forget the substance use warnings are basically a grocery list.
