So I was scrolling through some adult game forum and someone mentioned JustAFriend and I thought, great, another chat simulator where you just tap through boring dialogue. But this one got its hooks in me like that trashy romance manga I used to hide from my parents. You know the type, where the sweet girlfriend slowly realizes the neighbor boy is paying more attention than her workaholic man.
The whole thing plays out on a fake phone screen. Messages pop up, photos come through, and you make choices that actually matter. Lisa, the girlfriend, she's stuck at home while the protagonist buries himself in spreadsheets or whatever. Classic setup. Her friend suggests this app called JustAFriend and suddenly she's chatting with people who actually respond. The tension builds so slowly I almost missed it. One minute she's complaining about being lonely, next thing there's this guy sending her gym selfies and she's typing then deleting then typing again.
The branching is where it gets messy in the best way. You can steer her toward sweet romantic moments, real heart fluttering stuff, or you can watch everything crumble into full on NTR territory. What got me was how losing one storyline sometimes opens up completely different characters. I messed up badly with one path and suddenly this new person appeared who wasn't there before. But I also permanently lost someone else. Gone. Never showed up again in any other route. That stung more than it should have.
The art style is deliberately rough around the edges, like someone's actual phone photos rather than polished hentai frames. Makes the explicit scenes hit different when they finally happen. There's this one moment where Lisa sends a picture and you can see her hesitation in the way it's framed. Or maybe I'm reading too much into pixels. The NTS stuff creeps in so naturally you don't realize you're on that path until clothes are already coming off and the betrayal feels weirdly earned. Not sure if that's praise or a complaint honestly. The translation has some jank but somehow that makes the chats feel more real, like actual people typing fast and making typos when they're nervous.
