If there is one thing the flash era taught us, it is that a crunchy JPEG and some midi files can get a man harder than any triple-A uncanny valley ever could. This game looks like it was coded in a fugue state by someone who just discovered a pirated copy of RPG Maker and a conspiracy theory forum. The chiptune loop is actually pretty decent, some genuine off-brand Mega Man vibes, but it resets every time you click a dialogue box. The music stops. Dead silence. Then the square wave starts from beat one again. Drives me fucking insane. You try to get into the rhythm of corrupting a senator or ritualistically consuming a virginโs soul and it just chops itself to pieces. Wish the dev would fix the audio stitching but you know they won't because they spent all their effort figuring out how to draw veiny tits.
The writing is pure, uncut schizoposting. You climb the ladder by picking dialogue choices that feel like they were ripped from a 4chan /x/ thread about lizard people. You get a choice between using a mind-control ray or a sex spell on a CEO, which is great. But my favorite part was a random, unmarked event where you choose a sacrificial goat. If you pick the black goat, the screen flashes a pentagram and you get a permanent stat boost. If you pick the white one, absolutely nothing happens and you just stand there in a field like a jackass. The game never explains this. I reloaded three times thinking I missed a layered hentai scene. Nope. Just goat gaslighting.
Spent way too long trying to find the hidden "puppeteer" perk everyone on the forums claims you can unlock if you deny the "nineveh constant" dialogue three times. I think it is a massive troll by the modding community. F95zone is probably just laughing at me. The actual asset rips for the mods are wild though, someone swapped all the character busts with vintage pin-up scans and it makes the gritty, digital corruption text feel way more unhinged. Seeing a 50s housewife graphic next to a command about extracting adrenochrome from orphans breaks something in the logic centers of your brain. Solid engine for a fever dream. The moloch boss fight at the end of act 2 is a DPS check that has no business being that tight, I almost threw my keyboard because you can not skip the 20-second looping "incantation" sound effect before the wipe. Just a brutal, horny, sonic mess.
