I was clicking through this thing, right, and there's a scene where the 1958 housewife gets her present. She's unwrapping it slow, the ribbon sliding off like honey off a spoon, and the look on her face when she sees what's inside. Not a toaster. The artist really captured that moment of shock melting into something hungrier, the way her pupils go all big and dark. It's a good panel. Makes you feel like you're peeking through a keyhole.
Then the game jumps to modern times and I got stuck on a mini game where you have to match ornaments or something. I don't know. I failed it twice because the hitbox felt weird on my phone screen. Using Chrome on a busted Galaxy S9, maybe that's the problem. The choice system is there but it's pretty basic, you pick an answer and the comic page changes. Sometimes the "right" answer is obvious, sometimes it's not and you just get a slightly different panel of someone looking disappointed in their underwear.
The art style is rough. Not in a bad way, it has that indie comic charm, like something you'd find in a zine. But the coloring is inconsistent between the two time periods. The 50s sections have this warm, faded look and the modern bits are more flat and digital. It's jarring. I wish they'd picked one style. The surprise tag makes sense because you genuinely don't know what weird sexual scenario is coming next, there's a whole thing with a Santa suit that I won't spoil but it involves the beard in a way I didn't expect.
The interactive parts are mostly just clicking through dialogue and occasionally playing a simple mini game. One of them is a memory card thing. I hate memory card games. Why do adult games always have memory card games. At least the reward was worth it, a full page spread of the two characters from different eras finally... meeting. That was hot. The anatomy gets a little wonky but the enthusiasm is there.
